The term “organic” refers to the way agricultural products are grown and processed. Organic crops must be grown without the use of synthetic herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers or GMOs. While organic livestock raised for meat, eggs, and dairy products must be raised in living conditions accommodating their natural behaviors and fed organic feed and forage. They may not be given antibiotics, growth hormones, or any animal by-products.

One of the goals of organically grown and produced foods is to encourage environmentally friendly farming and growth practices, cycling of natural resources, and growing food without the need for harsh pesticides or chemical fertilizers. This makes many organic crops more volatile but focuses on environmental sustainability as well as yield.

Requirements to get your products certified as ‘Organic’ vary from country to country but generally involve a set of production standards for growing, storage, processing, packaging and shipping.
